Halo hype will break movie box-office records…

Posted by Chris Gore in Blog, Attack of the Show at 1:00 AM PDT

The Halo story is so epic, there is no doubt that it would make a great movie. And I’m sure Master Chief will reveal his face on the big screen one day. But in one short week, the release of Halo 3 for the XBox 360 is going to have an impact on the movie business. With over 1 million in pre-sales, it’s possible that a video game may beat Spider-Man 3’s opening weekend box-office record. I’ll be standing in line to get my own copy on Monday, September 24th when copies go on sale at midnight. The drag for me is that I’ll be working that night. On that Monday at 7 PM (Eastern Time with re-airs the next day) G4 will present a Halo 3 Countdown Special — four and a half hours of Halo hype for hardcore and casual gamers alike. I’ll be waiting outside the EB Games at Universal City Walk in Universal City, CA. Hey, that’s exactly where I would be anyway, geeking out with fans waiting in line. There have been some amazing new videos promoting Halo 3 that are as good as some of the best movie trailers, including their new “Believe” campaign. Fan-made trailers are hitting the web and this one with Mario is particularly entertaining.

Enjoy and see you during the long wait in line.

Gore gone!
